Singlejim, during his enlistment in the United States Army, was a member of the USO, playing in Tom T. Hall’s Band. And it was during this period of his enlistment, that Tom T. Hall, in Singlejim’s words, “hung” the name, “Singlejim on me.”  In turn, Singlejim told, “Tom Hall.” as Tom T. Hall was known by at the time, that “Tom Hall doesn’t have any sharp edges’ to it,”  and so Singlejim “hung “ the middle initial of .”T” onto Tom Hall’s name, and thus Tom Hall became, “Tom T. Hall,” and the rest, as they. is history.
Since those days, Tom T. Hall has been inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame, and it is worth mentioning that Tom T. Hall once wrote a song called, “ Singlejim, the Ramblin’ Mandolin Man. “ which is surely based on a true story, if ever one was told.  Singlejim during his long career in music, has opened for, or as he would put it, “ worked warm-up shows ,” for R.E.O., Led Zeppelin, Crow, Tom T. Hall, Michael Martin Murphy,  Asleep at the Wheel, Scruggs, Johnny Paycheck, Jerry Lee Lewis, Suzie Nelson, and many others. He has co-scored the sound tracks for 2 feature films.  Appeared on the first TV station in Lead, South Dakota, WTVS in 1954, helped originate and MC-ed the 1st Buffalo Chip outdoor concerts and continued his involvement with them for 6 years after, and the list of musical endeavors goes on, including the gigs he played with Kenny Miller, Bruce Williams, and drummer Gary St. Martin, all of whom are honored here on The Legendary Musicians of the Black Hills of South Dakota website.
